Hospitality Industry Update 2025 Q1/Q22 - May 13, 2025 - Bellinzona Auditorium (SSSAT)
📊 Tourist season in Ticino: where are we, where are we going?
Barbara Donzelli and Gabriels Viskars - HBenchmark
The year 2025 has opened with an uncertain scenario for Ticino's tourism sector, influenced by well-known factors such as the general increase in operating costs and the change in travelers' purchasing habits. In this context, it becomes crucial to understand whether-and to what extent-accommodation facilities have been able to respond, for example by improving their economic performance through an increase in RevPAR (Revenue per Available Room) compared to previous years.
At the cantonal level, the first part of the year did not bring particularly positive results. Recorded performance remained in line with that of last season, also aided by an Easter marked by bad weather. However, prospects for the coming months look encouraging, thanks in part to the expected impact of the ICML conference scheduled for June 2025.
It should be noted that these data vary significantly by facility category and by different areas of Canton.

An innovative view on branding and positioning in the hospitality world
Matteo De Santis - Positioner
In his talk, Matteo De Santis of Positioner shared enlightening reflections on the role of branding and positioning in the hospitality world. He highlighted how a well-defined branding strategy is no longer simply a distinguishing feature, but a determining factor in building value, recognition and trust in the long run.
Particularly significant was his insight into the future of the evolving luxury segment and the growing demand for unique experiences: a clear signal that today's travelers-and even more so tomorrow's travelers-are looking for authenticity, personalization and emotional involvement that goes beyond simply staying.
A clear vision of the changes taking place in the Ticino hospitality sector emerged during the panel: from the arrival of international hotel chains, which redefine competition and raise the bar of standards, to the opening to new markets, which requires a more flexible and intercultural offer. Also central was the theme ofdigital image, now a strategic lever for attracting and retaining guests, along withtechnological integration in operational and relationalprocesses. Finally, the challenges and potential related togenerative artificial intelligence were discussed, between opportunities for personalization and the need to preserve the authenticity of the human experience.
